Set S.M.A.R.T. goals

Article revised on 21 March 2018

Managers are well acquainted with S.M.A.R.T. goals, but they can also be applied to your health. When it’s time to make resolutions, it makes all the difference if goals and the plan for attaining them are well defined. Make sure your resolutions meet the following 5 criteria: specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, timely.

The table below gives examples of S.M.A.R.T goals for each aspect of VIVA.

One step at a time…

When trying to change my habits, it’s best to set modest targets rather than aim to conquer Mount Everest. After all, it’s easier to be motivated when you celebrate little victories rather than experience repeated defeats.

To get off on the right foot, set 3 different S.M.A.R.T. goals. When the deadlines are up, re-evaluate your goals. If some changes are too difficult to make, you can always modify your expectations or simply put your energy into a new goal that will be more realistic to permanently integrate into your daily routine.

The Viva Workplace health and wellness program is a turnkey program that’s specially designed to meet employers’ needs with regard to health and wellness promotion and prevention.
