Kinesiologists are there to take care of your mental health
Article revised on 27 November 2020
Covid-19, the isolation and confinement, coupled with the arrival of the cold weather, less daylight and with winter just around the corner…Clearly, the stars aren’t aligned to ensure our mental health! Thankfully, we can be proactive about it and turn to specialized care offered by kinesiologists.
The cure to depression?
There’s a well-known cure to help you deal with an out-of-control situation or difficult period: regular physical activity. It’s been proven that regular physical activity results in a number of positive benefits on your health:
- Increased cardiovascular capacity (you’re less winded)
- Decreased stress
- Increased flexibility
- Maintenance and strengthening of muscle tone (better posture)
Not to mention the positive impact that physical activity has on your mental health and the secretion of endorphins, the feel-good hormone.
To tap into the full benefits, you need to engage in a minimum of 150 minutes of physical activity weekly, i.e. a 20-minute walk daily or two 10-minute strolls.
Your secret weapon: Kinesiologists, the pros of physical activity
Did you know that kinesiologists, specialists in the dynamics of human movement and physical activity, are the most qualified healthcare professionals to provide physical activity advice? With a kinesiologst by your side, it’s easier for you to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle.
They will develop a plan tailored to your specific needs and state of your health. A kinesiologist will also develop the program based on your physical limitations, medication you are taking, and your living environment. You’re therefore in good hands with a kinesiologist by your side, whether you’re a novice or expert!
Launching of nationwide MoveBetterChallenge
National Kinesiology Week will be held from November 23 to 29 in support of mental health. The Canadian Kinesiology Alliance (CKA) is organizing this event and it is backed by all provincial kinesiology associations.
For the 2020 edition, the CKA is launching the MoveBetterChallenge. Here are four ways to get moving:
Your health is your greatest investment
During National Kinesiology Week, take part in activities offered in your area and invest in both your physical and mental health.
You should also make time to consult with your kinesiologist to maximize your efforts and results – it’ll boost your health and well-being this fall!
Resources made available to you
Don’t know any kinesiologists and would like to get in touch with one? You can refer to the directories of the Fédération des kinésiologues du Québec and the CKA, two organizations which work in concert to promote their profession and the positive impacts on the population.
