It’s tomato season again!

August is the ideal time to enjoy delicious local tomatoes …And there are so many types to choose from! Make the most of the harvest to discover all the shapes, colours and flavours of this fruit that tastes like a vegetable.

Here’s a short guide to the flavours and textures of the main varieties of tomatoes.


  • Shape: Round
  • Flesh: Very juicy
  • Best use: Salad, roasted or grilled
  • Recipe idea: Tomatoes stuffed with couscous


  • Shape: Oblong
  • Flesh: Firm, not much juice or seeds
  • Best use: Sauces, canning or roasted
  • Recipe idea:
    • Tomato sauce with onion, garlic and olive oil

  • Flesh: Thick, not much juice
  • Best use: Salad
  • Recipe idea: Colourful salads, with mango, red onion and vinaigrette
