Christmas Vacations: The 6 Best Destinations

Article revised on 24 November 2017

Finally, the holiday break is upon us! Some people love long nights getting together with loved ones during the holidays, while others decide to go on vacation. Here are some popular destinations for Quebec residents during the holiday season and the New Year.

1. Féliz Navidad in Mexico

Many people will opt to go to a sunny destination like Mexico. With its white sand beaches and numerous hotels, Mexico has something to offer for every family member. Many hotels provide facilities for kids, while others are exclusively for adults. It’s also a very popular destination for people who want to party. In fact, Cancun and Playa Del Carmen are famous for their nightlife, bars and the popular dance club Coco Bongo.

2. The Caribbeans

Jamaica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe…the list goes on! With temperatures between 25°C and 32°C all year round, it’s no wonder Quebec residents flock to the Caribbeans. By the end of December and early January, the rainy season ends in many of the region’s islands. All you have to do is pick an island then relax!

3. New Year’s in New York

It may be cliché, but I truly believe there’s nothing like kicking off the new year in the Big Apple. For starters, storefront windows on 5th Avenue are beautifully decorated and are must-see. Then you can lace up your skates and go skating on the rink located under the famous Rockefeller Centre Christmas tree. On December 31, New York City comes alive with fireworks and shows, the Brooklyn bridge is lit up and everyone is in a festive mood!

4. Partying in Paris

Paris. I often dream of going there! Typically, you would visit the City of Lights for what it offers in terms of history, art, culture, architecture, food, romance, fashion, but you can also go there to celebrate the holidays. You can find the same activities as you would elsewhere, i.e. Christmas markets, skating rinks, fireworks, etc. But experiencing them in Paris is unique! Parisian parties for me are good anytime!

5. Other European locations

The other major cities in Europe are also worth your while during the holidays. Both Prague with its baroque arches and Berlin with its winter village Potsdamer Platz are home to exceptional Christmas markets. Cozy up with some hot wine and delicious German sausages! In London, in addition to skating rinks and Christmas markets, there’s a huge fair in Hyde Park. The rides and many other attractions make London a magical place to visit.

6. Staycations

Don’t forget that there are many wonderful places to visit during the holidays right here in Quebec. Old Quebec will be decorated and covered in lights for several weeks. Montreal also offers several options. Winter sports enthusiasts can always find something to do, no matter where they are. Our beautiful province is worth discovering.

Travel Insurance

Regardless of your destination, don’t forget to purchase travel insurance that covers, in addition to medical expenses abroad, trip interruption and cancellation in addition to the loss of your baggage and personal effects. We’re not the only ones travelling during this time of the year, and unfortunately, anybody can run into bad luck!
